Overview
WHAT YOU’LL CHAMPION:
The Occupational Safety Health & Environment (OSHE) Specialist is responsible to the Head of OSHE for providing assistance and support, at the same time oversight on overall workplace across the group for implementing, maintaining and continuously improving an effective OSHE (OSH Act 514) program and Safety Management System (SMS), in accordance to regulatory, company, ICAO and IOSA requirements; and ensure continuous compliance to all applicable local and international regulations and standards, as well as AirAsia Aviation Group Limited requirements.
Assist applicable departments in developing Safety Objectives and targets.
Regularly review Safety Objectives and targets with applicable departments for suitability.
Assist and ensure that Safety Objectives and targets are communicated throughout applicable departments.
Monitor Safety Objectives and targets and keep the Head of OSHE and Chief Safety Officer, as well as applicable Head of departments, updated regularly.
Assist, support, and oversight on applicable operations are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations and safety standards of the organization.
Assist, support, and oversight on emergency response, planning, and exercises.
Assist, support and oversight on applicable departments in documenting ALL safety-related policies, planning, processes, procedures, programs, and records in relevant manuals and the central Safety Data Collection and Processing System (SDCPS) as applicable, in accordance with organization documentation and records control requirements.
Assist, support, and oversight on applicable departments in identifying, reporting, recording, and investigating hazards from all sources.
Assist, support, and oversight on applicable departments safety investigations in accordance with the safety investigation process and procedures, as well as clearly identifying root cause(s).
Carry out safety investigation as required by the Accountable Executive, Chief Safety Officer, Head of OSHE, applicable departments Head of Departments, or as required by the management.
Assist, support and oversight on applicable departments in ALL risk assessments and formulating mitigation actions for hazards, risk and root causes identified.
Perform internal audits on applicable departments to assess the effectiveness of the SMS and OSHE to identify areas for potential improvement.
Follow up and ensure the closing of all findings identified from internal audits.
Assist, support, and oversight on applicable operations in developing Safety Performance Indicators and Targets, as well as proposing necessary actions to maintain the targets.
Assist, support, and oversight on applicable departments’ management of change
process.
Assist, support, and oversight on the continuous improvement of applicable departments’ SMS.
Assist, support, and oversight on applicable departments’ SMS and OSHE training and education for all management and non-management personnel.
Assist, support, and oversight on applicable departments in communicating safety objectives and procedures, lessons learned from investigations and case histories, or experience,s and relevant safety-related information to all appropriate personnel.
Assist, support, and coordinate with applicable departments to ensure compliance with applicable laws, acts, regulations, and requirements (example, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Factories and Machinery Act, Environmental Quality Act, etc.)
Assist the Head of OSHE in OSHE-related matters as and when necessary.
A Hygiene Technician 1 (HT1) registered with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) in Malaysia plays a critical role in ensuring workplace safety by monitoring and assessing chemical exposures. This position is governed by the Occupational Safety and Health (Use and Standards of Exposure of Chemicals Hazardous to Health) Regulations 2000 (USECHH 2000).
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct Chemical Exposure Monitoring: Perform personal and area sampling to assess employees exposure to hazardous chemicals. This includes determining sampling methods, media, duration, and frequency. Samples are then sent to accredited laboratories for analysis.
Report Findings: Prepare and submit comprehensive reports detailing monitoring results, including any immediate dangers identified during sampling. Reports must be submitted within one month of the assessment.
Collaborate with CHRA Assessors: Work alongside Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) assessors to implement recommendations, such as exposure monitoring and risk management strategies.
Ensure Compliance: Adhere to the USECHH 2000 regulations, ensuring that chemical exposures are monitored in accordance with approved methods and that findings are reported promptly.
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using industrial hygiene monitoring equipment and interpreting analytical results.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess chemical exposure risks and recommend appropriate control measures.
Communication: Proficient in preparing detailed reports and effectively communicating findings to stakeholders.
Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the USECHH 2000 regulations and other relevant occupational safety and health standards
WHO YOU ARE:
Certified Industrial Hygienist and have passed the HT1 (Part II) examination conducted by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
Minimum Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational/Industrial Hygiene and have passed the HT1 examination conducted by NIOSH.
Diploma in Engineering, or Natural & Applied Science, have attended the HT1 course, passed the HT1 examination conducted by NIOSH, and possess a minimum of 1 year working experience in Occupational Safety & Health.
STPM (Principal in any Science subject) / Polytechnic Engineering certificate, have attended the HT1 course, passed the HT1 examination conducted by NIOSH, and have a minimum of 1 year working experience in Occupational Safety & Health.
