The Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) Advanced Engine Programs (AEP) Mechanical Design team is seeking experienced mechanical engineering professionals to join our team. AEP is a dynamic and exciting environment that covers all Fan & Compressor hardware nosecone/spinner to entrance to diffuser. Tasks are both Commercial and Military/Government in origin and we work to leverage both types to generate overall improvements at PW.
What You Will Do
The selected candidate will perform mechanical designs of gas turbine engine parts for Compression Systems – nosecone spinner to exit of HPC. This position requires creative design skills in engine hardware to achieve demonstration aircraft testing, while meeting structural and functional requirements. Based on business needs, the employee may be required to support other duties/functions within the company. In addition:
- Interpret, define and reviews tolerances and features on part drawings. Also, performs and reviews tolerance analysis.
- Develop technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones and requirements.
- Collaborate on specifications, and design requirements of multiple gas turbine hardware discussions. Also, participate as a design lead in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements
- Communicate with department leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics (cost, weight, performance, etc.) as well as provide input or guidance to lower level professionals with tasks and assignments.
- Perform Compressor Design EKS and apply CORE tools to Lead continuous improvement efforts on processes/methods as well as support rapid closure of high impact tasks related to Customer issues.
- Understand the function and general requirements of all Compression Systems hardware as well as develop and sustain a healthy work relationship based on mutual trust with peers, internal and external customers.
What You Will Learn
- Initial primary responsibility will be on two engine reuse application tasks. Both programs are in support of external customers seeking to utilize existing PW engines for airframe demonstration.
- - The first is the X66 – Truss Braced Wing (TBW) in support of Boeing / NASA program.
- - The second is for a lift body airframe sponsored by JetZero.
- You will seek opportunities to learn about the propulsion needs, challenges and opportunities these new airframe forms present.
- Integration of compressor technologies to better understand the considerations, trades and complexities that go into new engine configuration definition.
- The opportunity to shape the engine architecture of the future. This is a Technology group, whereby definition, new design standards are explored and defined. Assignments are challenging but open for innovation and creativity, often leading toward patents.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelors Degree Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and 8 years of engineering experience or an Advanced Degree in Engineering and 5 years of engineering experience
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
- Travel is up to 10.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Possess or be eligible for a UG Government security clearance.
- Experience with NX and ANSYS.
- Experience in Teamcenter.
- Prior aerospace job experience.
- Understand technical processes and design requirements of multiple gas turbine hardware (internal, external, static, or rotating hardware).
- Prior gas turbine experience and strong aptitude working reuse / repurpose tasks.
- Familiarization with PW2040, PW1500 or PW100 engine compression systems.
What Is My Role Type:
In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. This role is:
*Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
*Facility upgrades are in progress. Until work in completed, work will be Hybrid (Monday, Tuesdays and Fridays).
Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.
The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
