Spirit AeroSystems is actively developing technologies that will enable zero carbon emission flight. As our research in this field expands, we are growing the Prestwick team based at our state-of-the-art research and technology development facility, the Aerospace Innovation Centre (AIC). The AIC showcases Spirit’s distinctive capabilities as a global centre for design and digital manufacturing of current and future aircraft. Partnering with Universities, industry leaders, and the UK’s CATAPULT network the AIC is a focal point to collaborate, innovate, train and develop skills for today and tomorrow. Spirit is developing structures and systems technologies to enable our industries transition to net zero emissions.
This exciting opportunity requires candidates to work in an agile, diverse and fast paced environment developing cutting edge technologies for aerostructures and future fuels integration. The successful candidate will deliver expert structural design and integrate across our design, R&D, systems, and test teams in a rapid design, build and test environment. Role Purpose
To develop and design future aerostructures as a senior member of the design team, supporting the team leader in the day to day running of the Design Team and to help and guide team members in their daily duties.
This opportunity, based at our Prestwick campus, offers:

Responsibilities
- Creates complex design work packages including CAD models, drawings, part lists etc.
- Works with minimum guidance from more senior engineers.
- Checks the work of other design engineering staff in line with Customer, Regulatory and company requirements.
- Identifies and implements areas of process improvement within the Design Engineering discipline.
- Works closely with other discipline engineers to achieve common Programme goals
- Produces and checks reports prior to approval by more senior engineers
- Directs and coaches more junior Design engineers
- Leads simple trade studies and delivers outputs to appropriate Quality and timescales
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or a technical/craft apprenticeship in an aerostructures environment
- 5 work experience in applying discipline knowledge
- Experience in applying tools, techniques and the use of specialised equipment
- A thorough understanding of general theories and applications covering a broad knowledge of Design Engineering is required
- A broad knowledge of airframe engineering, manufacturing, projects/programme management
- Proficient in relevant IT applications and software packages
- Knowledge and understanding of Company Procedures and standards relating to engineering, design, health, safety and environment
Decision Making Authority
- Makes decisions in how to perform own work using proscribed tools and methods to ensure delivery to required timescales.
- Identifies and implements improvements in performing work within the Design discipline.
- Implements plans/improvements that have been approved by more senior management.
