The Senior Component Engineer will play a pivotal role in defining strategies and identifying opportunities for improvement to ensure the effective selection, evaluation, and management of electronic components that meet technical, regulatory, and performance requirements. This position demands advanced expertise in complex electronic components, including their manufacturing processes, technologies, and market trends, as well as proficiency in managing component data. Roles and Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and select electronic components based on performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., MIL specs, REACH, RoHS).
- Obsolescence Management: Develop and implement strategies to proactively manage component obsolescence, including identifying alternatives and mitigating risks to production and product lifecycle.
- Technical Expertise: Provide advanced technical knowledge of electronic components, including their manufacturing methods, technologies, and performance levels, to support design and engineering teams.
- Process Improvement: Define, implement, and continuously improve processes related to component engineering, including data management, procurement, and compliance tracking.
- Market Analysis: Monitor and analyze the electronic components market to identify trends, new technologies, and potential suppliers, ensuring the organization remains competitive and informed.
- Data Management: Manage and track component data within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for cross-functional teams.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams/sites, including design, procurement, and quality, to ensure components meet technical and regulatory requirements. Utilize strong communication and negotiation skills to align stakeholders.
- Continuous Improvement and Growth: Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the component engineering domain and demonstrate a commitment to teams personal and professional growth, fostering a self-motivated and teamwork-oriented environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, etc.) or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in component engineering.
- This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status.
Desired Qualifications Characteristics
- Experience on creating engineering changes through the usage of a PLM, preferably Windchill PartsLink and PDMLink.
- Knowledge about DO-254, DO-160 and/or IEC 62239-1:2018
- Experience leading audits.
- Remarkable communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of electronic components, its manufacturing methods, know the technology of the components, their level of performance.
- Experience with component datasheets, standards (like MIL specs), and regulations (REACH, RoHS).
