Aircraft Apprentice I

Job Description:

Purpose:The Aviation Apprentice position is an entry-level opportunity designed to support certificated aircraft technicians in the repair, maintenance, and modification of aircraft and their components. This hands-on role includes dismantling, repairing, and assembling mechanical and electrical components under the direct supervision of senior personnel. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and eager to learn through practical application and technical training. Candidates must be currently enrolled in SOWELA’s FAA Part 147 Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT) Program in the General Aviation Class. Essential Job Functions:

Assist in inspection, repair, and modification of removed aircraft components per FAA regulations and company Repair Station/Quality Manual.
Operate shop equipment for the fabrication and maintenance of aircraft and interior components.
Learn and follow all procedures outlined in the Repair Station Manual, FAA regulations, manufacturer bulletins, and safety advisories.
Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work area with strict adherence to safety and housekeeping protocols.
Properly tag, document, and store components, parts, and panels.
Accurately perform documentation and signoffs in compliance with task requirements.
Safely handle and store tools and ground support equipment (GSE).
Communicate regularly with the Lead Technician regarding progress and challenges.
Ensure high-quality, timely, and airworthy re-delivery of aircraft to exceed customer satisfaction.
Participate in required company training and development programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in SOWELA’s FAA Part 147 AMT Program.
Successfully pass background check and FAA/DOT drug and alcohol screening (including random testing).
Possess a valid driver’s license.
High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior hands-on aircraft maintenance experience (Boeing, Airbus, Gulfstream, etc.).
Familiarity with aircraft maintenance documentation and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

Mechanically inclined and detail-oriented.
Willingness to learn and apply technical knowledge under mentorship.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Team-oriented mindset with a positive, can-do attitude.

Training & Technical Exposure Includes:

Aircraft drawings, blueprints, graphs, and charts interpretation.
Use of precision measuring tools and identification of aircraft hardware.
Non-destructive testing and welded structure inspection.
Heat-treating, fabrication, and installation of fluid lines.
Weight and balance diagnostics.
Aircraft fueling, taxiing, fire suppression, and corrosion control.
Maintenance documentation and digital publication use.
Electrical system inspection and service.
Airframe and engine fuel system overhaul and troubleshooting.
Aircraft finishes, metallic and non-metallic structure assembly and inspection.
Flight control, hydraulic, and pneumatic system maintenance.
Landing gear systems, warning systems, and instrumentation servicing.
Electrical wiring, circuit protection, communication, and navigation system repairs.
HVAC, pressurization, and oxygen system troubleshooting.
Fire detection, extinguishing, and environmental system inspection.
Reciprocating and turbine engine operations, overhauls, and inspections.
Fuel metering, lubrication, induction, and airflow systems diagnostics.
Engine conformity and airworthiness inspections.
