Welder And Fabricator
Job Description:
Job Title: Welder and Fabricator
Job Description

This role focuses on aluminum MIG welding and fabrication in a production environment, working on platforms, frames, and structural assemblies. You will set up welding equipment, interpret blueprints and weld symbols, and produce high-quality welds in flat, vertical, and occasional overhead positions while working independently and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints, weld symbols, and job travelers at the start of each shift to understand job requirements and specifications.
  • Set up MIG welding equipment for aluminum, including gas selection, wire type, and heat settings, rather than only operating preconfigured machines.
  • Position and secure large assemblies using jigs, clamps, and fixtures to ensure proper alignment and fit-up prior to welding.
  • Perform vertical (3G) aluminum MIG welds on platforms, frames, and structural components using 5053 wire in a production setting.
  • Complete welds in flat, vertical, and occasional overhead positions while maintaining consistent quality and adherence to welding standards.
  • Grind, blend, and finish aluminum welds to meet quality, appearance, and dimensional requirements.
  • Read and interpret welding blueprints and welding symbols accurately to ensure correct weld sizes, locations, and processes.
  • Fabricate and fit components as required, including tack welding and fitting operations to assemble parts prior to final welding.
  • Inspect welds visually and through basic measurements to verify conformance with job specifications and applicable codes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling of tools, fixtures, and materials.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines while working in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2+ years of MIG welding experience, specifically with aluminum.
  • Proven aluminum MIG welding experience, including 3G (vertical) welding.
  • Experience welding thicker aluminum materials beyond light-gauge production work.
  • Ability to weld in flat, vertical (critical), and overhead positions as needed.
  • Ability to independently set up MIG welding machines, including gas, wire, and heat settings, not just operate pre-set equipment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Experience grinding, blending, and finishing aluminum welds.
  • Fabrication experience, including fitting, tacking, and assembling components.
  • Comfort working on platforms, frames, and structural assemblies in a production environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • TIG welding experience, especially on aluminum, is preferred.
  • Experience with welding blueprints and welding symbols in accordance with industry standards.
  • Knowledge or experience related to AWS codes such as AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.3, and AWS D1.6.
  • Any welding certificates or credentials are a plus.
  • Experience with fitting and tack welding in fabrication environments.
  • Comfort working with aluminum-specific processes and materials.
