Job Title: Sewing Technician
Job DescriptionThe Sewing Technician sets up, operates, and maintains industrial sewing equipment to fabricate high-quality soft-goods products to precise specifications. This role involves working from fabrication and assembly drawings, creating and following patterns, and performing both hand and machine sewing to very tight tolerances. The Sewing Technician follows established safety, operating, and flight/training process procedures while ensuring that all fabricated products meet strict quality and accuracy standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate industrial sewing machines, including Straight Stitch (single and double needle), Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole, and Rolled Hem Serger, to fabricate soft-goods components and assemblies.
- Sew materials by hand and by machine to join, gather, reinforce, or decorate materials or fabricated articles while maintaining very tight tolerances.
- Read and interpret soft-goods fabrication and assembly drawings in English to determine sewing methods, materials, and construction details.
- Fabricate soft-goods patterns and position and mark patterns on materials to prepare for cutting and sewing.
- Cut materials according to specifications, and trim excess material or thread from finished products using a blade, scissors, or electric knife to very tight tolerances.
- Position materials through feed rollers and guides, or maneuver materials under the presser foot and needle during sewing operations to ensure accurate stitching and alignment.
- Monitor machine operation continuously to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunctions, and take corrective action as needed.
- Mount and change attachments, such as needles and guides, and adjust machine settings according to specifications and work instructions.
- Place spools of thread, cord, or other materials on spindles, insert bobbins, and thread ends through machine guides and components correctly.
- Remove finished materials from sewing machines, inspect them, and examine and measure finished articles to verify conformance to standards and drawings.
- Perform routine maintenance on sewing machines, including replacing needles, cleaning, and oiling equipment to maintain optimal performance and reduce downtime.
- Use specialized automatic or semi-automatic sewing equipment and other fabrication tools as required to produce finished products.
- Record the amount of materials processed and work completed in production logs accurately and in a timely manner.
- Complete required safety training and training on operating procedures and desk instructions, and perform all duties in accordance with established process procedures and work-authorizing documents.
- Take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of product fabrication, ensuring all work complies with fabrication instructions, drawings, and applicable standards.
- Work effectively under tight deadlines and project schedules while maintaining high-quality workmanship and attention to detail.
Essential Skills- 5+ years of industrial sewing experience.
- Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines, including Straight Stitch (single and double needle), Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole, and Rolled Hem Serger.
- Strong experience in industrial sewing or soft-goods manufacturing, preferably in highly regulated or precision-focused industries such as aerospace.
- Ability to read and interpret soft-goods fabrication and assembly drawings in English.
- Proficiency in fabricating and working from soft-goods patterns.
- Ability to sew materials by hand and by machine to very tight tolerances for joining, gathering, reinforcing, or decorating materials or fabricated articles.
- Ability to cut materials to specification and trim excess material or thread from finished products using blades, scissors, or electric knives to very tight tolerances.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor machine operation and quickly identify issues such as defective stitching, thread breaks, or machine malfunctions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality and accuracy.
- Experience working under tight deadlines and project schedules.
- High school diploma.
- Eligibility to work in the United States and ability to pass a 10-year background check.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience in industrial sewing or soft-goods manufacturing within the aerospace industry is a strong plus.
- background in theater costume or stage production sewing is highly relevant and well suited to this role.
- Experience in alterations, tailoring, or other clothing and garment work is beneficial.
- Familiarity with production environments and documentation such as work-authorizing documents and fabrication instructions.
- Comfort using specialized automatic or semi-automatic sewing and fabrication equipment.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate production logs and documentation.
- Ability to follow detailed safety procedures, operating procedures, and desk instructions.

Work Environment
The role is primarily based in an office-style production environment, with work that can take place inside and occasionally outside depending on the task. You will work with industrial sewing machines and related cutting tools such as blades, scissors, and electric knives, as well as specialized automatic or semi-automatic sewing equipment. The environment is process-driven and safety-focused, with required training on safety, operating procedures, and desk instructions. Work is performed around powered equipment and production materials, requiring appropriate work attire suitable for a fabrication and manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Webster, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.54 - $34.01/hr.
